Mr. Woodward asks that the board
exert Its utmost Influence with council
and the Incoming mayor to hare an
election called for the Issuance of 5500,-
000 bonds, provided for by the legisla
ture.
Hls report for the year shows that
the expenses have been 1200,251.21, The
money taken In wae $294,500. The
cash profit wae 592,215.69. The public
service rendered the city, for which
nothing wae paid the department, $190,-
000. The total proflt, therefore,' wae
$254,215.69.
The following additions are recom
mended: Force main from river to res
ervoir: another coagulating basin; an
other clear water basin; doubling of
Altering capacity; an additional pump
of at least 20,000,000 capacity at No. 2
pumping station.

term of Gordon Institute will come to
a close Friday evening with a debate
between two of the prominent societies
of the school, the Phllomathean and
the Euphradean, composed of a large
number of the etudente. The rivalry Is
spirited and the debate will be ex
ceedingly Interesting to the student
body and to the people of the city ae
well. Messrs. Hepry Williams and C.
M. Dunn will represent the Euphradean
and Messrs. Omer Franklin and G.
W. Wright the Phllomathean Society.
Every department of the echool has
been at it* beet the present term, the
enrollment being the largest In Its his
tory.
Congressman T. W. Hardwick, a for
mer pupil of this echool, has Just of
fered a gold medal to the beet de
bater in an original speaking contest to
take place next commencement; ami
President Pickett has also offered \an
award of 520 in gold for A similar pur

ated the Interest In these debates.
