Commerce, died Saturday,
November 24, 2007, at St. Mary’s
Hospice Care.
Survivors include his wife,
Sanjuana, Commerce; sons,
Robert Rochelle Jr. and Timothy
Rochelle, both of West Palm
Beach, Fla.; daughters, Maria
Quinlan, Ann Arbor, Mich.,
and Teresa Rochelle, West Palm
Beach, Fla.; and four grandchil
dren.
Private memorial services will
be held at a later date in West
Palm Beach, Fla.

John Strickland
John W. Strickland, 79,
of Commerce, died Friday,
November 23, 2007, at BJC
Nursing Home in Commerce.
He was the son of the late John
W. Strickland Sr., and Mamie
Ellis Strickland.
Survivors include a daughter
and son-in-law, Tammie and Ray
Faulkner, Commerce; grandson,
Timothy Faulkner, Commerce;
sister-in-law, Connie Haynes
Smith, Commerce; former wife,
Jeannette Denton, Commerce.

'Tootsie' Norris
Charles Vickery
Charles Edwin Vickery, 80,
of Commerce, died Friday,
November 23, 2007, at BJC nurs
ing home.
He was born in Jackson County,
the son of the late
Herman and Ruth
Wilson Vickery.
He was a mem
ber of the First Baptist Church
of Commerce and was retired
from the U.S. Postal Service. Mr.
Vickery was a veteran, having
served in the United States Navy
during World War II.
Survivors include his wife,
Dorothy Sullivan Vickery,
Commerce; daughters and
sons-in-law, Elaine and Steve
Gary and Lynn and Dwayne
Owensby, all of Commerce; a
son and daughter-in-law, Chuck
and Debbie Vickery, Carnesville;
brother, Paul Vickery, Commerce;
six grandchildren; and ten great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, November 25, at the First
Baptist Church of Commerce
with Dr. Carlton Allen and the
Rev. Duane Eller officiating.
Burial was in Jackson Memorial
Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the First Baptist Church
of Commerce Building Fund,
1345 S. Elm St., Commerce, Ga.

Mary “Tootsie” Payne Norris,
76, of Jefferson, died Wednesday,
November 21, 2007.
She was born in Jackson County,
the daughter of
the late Alvin and
Lona Jackson
Payne. She was
a retired school
bus driver with
the Jefferson City
Schools, where
she also worked
in the cafeteria,
and the Jackson County Schools.
Mrs. Norris was preceded in
death by a brother, Joe Payne.
Survivors include her husband,
William L. “Pete” Norris, Jefferson;
sons, Stanley Russell Gaddis,
Commerce, and Phillip Payne
Gaddis, Jefferson; daughters,
Patricia Alice Pulliam, Royston,
and Rita Wilson, Gainesville;
step-son, Dennis W. Norris,
Pendergrass; sisters, Peggy
Shirley, Agnes Bell, Reba Payne,
Neta Payne Hix and Nancy
Payne Riley, all of Jefferson,
Hazel Lancaster, Belmont; eight
grandchildren; and five great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 24, at the
Bethany United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Johnny
Ray officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery. Pallbearers
were Buster Shirley, Chris Shirley,
Mark Lancaster, Charlie Wilson,
Jacob Pulliam and Eric Norris.

Children’s Home, 500S. Columbia
Dr., Decatur, Ga. 30030.

David Green
David Michael Green died
Tuesday, November 20, 2007, fol
lowing injuries sustained in an
automobile accident.
He was the son of the late
Sylvia Jean Green McDaniel.
Survivors include a daughter,
Samantha Diane Green, Ila; step
father, Robert McDaniel, Colbert;
sisters, Nell McDaniel, Colbert,
Jennifer Horne, Danielsville;
brothers, Andy McDaniel,
Comer, Timothy McDaniel,
Oglethorpe County; uncles,
Floyd Green, Hull, Emory Green,
Alton Green and Lee Green, all
of Commerce.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, November 24, in the
chapel of Ivie Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Grey Hill
Cemetery.

Patrick Young
Patrick Wayne Young, 74, of
Nicholson, died Thursday,
November 22, 2007, at BJC
Nursing Home.
Born on April 23, 1933, in
Cullman County,
Ala., he was the son
of the late Lonnie
Edward and Hattie
Banks Young. He was retired from
the dry wall industry, was a mem
ber of Center Baptist Church,
and was a veteran, having served
in the United States Army during
the Korean War. Mr. Young was
preceded in death by his wife,
Sylvia Brookshire Young.
Survivors include brothers,
Marvin Young, Rockmart, and
Thelton Young, Cullman, Ala.; sis
ters, Linda Ellison, Cold Springs,
Ala., and Elaine Roberts, Cullman,
Ala.
Graveside services were
held Saturday, November 24,
at Howington Cemetery in
Nicholson with the Rev. Gary
Prather officiating.
Memorial contributions may
be made to the Center Baptist
Church.

Marjorie Butler
Marjorie Maley Butler, 93,
of Jefferson, died Thursday,
November 22, 2007.
She was born on January 31,
1914, in Jackson
County, and
was the daugh
ter of the late
W.H. and
Bessie Evans
Maley. She was
a retired school
teacher and
was a member
of the Bethany
United Methodist Church. Mrs.
Butler was preceded in death by
her husband, Warren Butler; and
a sister, Roberta Miller.
Survivors include several cous
ins.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, November 25, in the
chapel of Evans Funeral Home
with the Revs. Carlton H. Peters
and Johnny Ray officiating. Burial
was in the Thyatira Presbyterian
Church Cemetery.

Melissa Monson, 46, Nicholson,
died Monday, November 19,
2007, at St. Mary’s Hospital, fol
lowing a brief illness.

Powers, Beaufort, S .C.

ters, Lauren Blais and Miranda
Blais, Nicholson; four step-daugh
ters; one grandson; and a brother,

Frances G. Harwell, 78, of
Winder, died Tuesday, November
20, 2007.
Born in Jackson County, she
was the daughter of the late Grady
and Osee Howington Ginn. She
was a homemaker and a member

Church, Sunday, Dec. 9, 11 am.

Lula Janes
Lula Mills Janes, 86, of Athens,
died Friday, November 23, 2007.
A native of Belton, S.C., she
was the daughter of the late Frank
C. and Mary Bell Mills. She was
a member of Bluestone Baptist
Church and, as a resident of
Lanier Gardens, she attended the
services at the chapel of Lanier
Gardens.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Mary F. and Frank
Stamey, Stafford, Va., and Ophelia
and Edwin Galloway, Nicholson;
four grandchildren, Linda Dale
Griffith, Timothy W. Stamey
(Jane), Laura Kump (Kirby)
and Ray Galloway (Barbara);
four great-grandchildren, Keely
Mirianda Hildebrand, Kirby Kale
Kump, Edwin A. Griffith, III, and
Michael Stamey Griffith; one
great-granddaughter, Genevieve

Elsie McClure
Elsie Mae McClure, 75,
of Maysville, died Monday,
November 26, 2007, at BJC
Medical Center in Commerce.
Born in Clarksville, she was the
daughter of the late Cathey and
Vista Clark Collins. Mrs. McClure
was preceded in death by her
husband, Clifton McClure; and a
daughter, Shelby Jean Holland.
Survivors include daughters,
Patricia Ann Farrington, Laura
Blankenship and Angela Brown,
all of Maysville, Janice Andrews,
Rincon, Heather De La Rosa,
Flowery Branch, Rachel Boyer,
Homer; brothers, J.C. Collins,
Troy Collins and Bill Collins; sis
ters, Thelma Lynn, Clara Minish;
16 grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; and nieces and
nephews.

Friday, November 30, at 3 p.m., in
the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home.

the funeral home on Friday from
noon until the time of service.

Bobby L. Black, 64, of
Commerce, died Saturday,
November 17, 2007.

Reuben Patterson
Reuben Thomas (R.T.) Patterson,
83, of Jefferson, formerly of
Norcross,
died Monday,
November 26,
2007.
He operated a
funeral home in
Norcross and
Lilburn until
his retirement
in 1997. He
attended Georgia
Teacher’s College,
Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College, and gradu
ated from John A. Gupton School
of Mortuary Science, Nashville,
Tenn. He was a veteran of World
War II, serving in the United
States Navy, and was active in
many civic and church organi
zations, including the Georgia
and National Funeral Directors
Association and the Graduate
School of Embalmers. In the early
1970s, Mr. Patterson gave the first
ambulance to the Gwinnett Fire
Department, setting in motion
the development of the county’s
ambulance service.
Survivors include his wife,
Opal Foster Patterson; daughter
and son-in-law, Mari Beth and
Sonny Hartsock, Jefferson; son
and daughter-in-law, Thomas and
Debbie Patterson, Jefferson; sis-
ter, Florence Griswold, Nicholson;
grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley)
Hartsock, Micah (Amy) Hartsock,
Andrew, Emma and Anna
Patterson; great-grandson, Micah
A. Hartsock.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, November 29, at 11
a.m., in the chapel of Evans
Funeral Home with the Rev.
Larry Montgomery, Pastor Derek
Watson, and Dr. Carey Hillard
officiating. Burial will be in Evans
Memory Gardens, Jefferson.

2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the
