Nicholson, died Monday, January
7, 2008, at his residence.
Born on October 3, 1941, in
Jackson County, he
was the son of Quida
Wilson Barnett of
Nicholson and the
late Otis Barnett Sr. He was a
retired brick mason and a veteran,
having served in the United States
Army.
Survivors in addition to his
mother, include sons, Scotty

Wednesday, January 9, in the cha
pel of Little-Ward Funeral Home
with the Revs. Curtis Green and
Marty Smith officiating. Burial
was in Howington Cemetery in
Nicholson.

Bobby Nation
Bobby G. Nation, 73, of
Commerce, died Friday, January
4, 2008, at BJC Medical Center in
Commerce.
Born in Jackson County, he was
the son of the late W.T. and Willie
Mae Nunn Nation
and was retired
from Westinghouse.
Mr. Nation was pre
ceded in death by a grandchild,
Kelsey Renee Nation.
Survivors include sons and
daughter-in-law, Michael Nation
and Donnie and Kim Nation, both
of Commerce; grandchildren,
Michael Nation Jr., Jordan Alec
Nation, and Cody Robert Charles
Nation.
Memorial services were held
Monday, January 7, in the chapel
of Ivie Funeral Home with Michael
Nation officiating.

'Bill' Barrett
William S. “Bill” Barrett, 82,
of Commerce, formerly of
Alpharetta, died Tuesday, January
1, 2008.
A native of Banks County, he
was the son of the late John B. and
Naomi Jones Barrett. He attended
Banks County High
School and Rutgers
University. Mr.
Barrett was preced
ed in death by his first wife, Betty
Parks Barrett. He was former
president of the Citizens Bank of
Alpharetta, and was a Mason and
a member of the Lions Club. He
was also co-founder and president
of the North Fulton Chamber of
Commerce, past member of the
Board of Directors of Clayton
County Bank, Gwinnett County
Bank, and Cobb County Bank. He
served on the board of directors
of the Georgia March of Dimes,
the American Cancer Society, the
American Legion, the Veterans of
Foreign Wars and was an advisor
to the Fulton County Board of
Education.
Mr. Barrett was a veteran, having
joined the United States Army at
the age of 17, serving with the 3rd
Army in the European Theater
of operations in World War II.
After the Battle of the Bulge, he
transferred to the Pacific Theatre
of operations, winning the bronze
and silver star.
Survivors include his wife,
Maxine Barrett; daughter, Beth
Moss; sons and daughters-in-law,
David and Pat Barrett, Doug and
Eleanor Barrett, Jeannie Barrett,
Scott Banks, Clay and Nicollett
Banks; grandchildren, David
Barrett II, Michael and Stephanie
Barrett, Paul Moss, Lindsey Moss,
Stephen and Kelly Barrett, Brian
and Christiana Barrett, Billie
Barrett and Robert Henry; and
six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Friday, January 4, at the Alpharetta
First United Methodist Church
with Drs. Bevel Jones and Don
Martin, the Revs. David Jones and
Wade Lott officiating. Burial was
in Green Lawn Cemetery.

Clyde Parr
Clyde Parr, 96, of Commerce,
died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at
BJC Nursing Home, following an
extended illness.
He was the son of the late Howell
Cobb and Cora Ledford Parr, and
was a retired barber.
Survivors include a son, Harold
Parr, Commerce; daughter, Mae
Carlan, Maysville; sister, Ruth
Bingham, Maysville; seven grand
children; and 13 great-grandchil
dren.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, January 3, in the chapel
of Ivie Funeral Home with the
Revs. Swayne Carlan and Winfred
Bingham officiating. Burial was in
the Grey Hill Cemetery.

Floy Williams
Floy E. Williams, 88, of Lula,
died Monday, January 7, 2008, at
her residence, following a brief
illness.
She was born in Jackson County,
the daughter of the late Eugene
Gee and Ollie Smith Gee. She
was a member of Timber Ridge
Baptist Church and was preceded
in death by her husband, Harry
Williams; step-mother, Ruth Gee;
and brothers, Donald Gee and
B.C. Gee. Mrs. Williams was a lov
ing mother, grandmother, great
grandmother, and great-great-
grandmother and friend, loved
ones stated. She was loved by all
that knew her.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Shirley and Jack
Hudgins, Oakwood, Joan and
David Waldrep, Commerce, and
Tammy and Randy Buffington,
Lula; sons and daughter-in-law,
Jimmy E. Williams, Washignton,
and Billy Ray Williams, Lula, and
Harry W. and Sandy Williams,
Gainesville; 17 grandchildren;
24 great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren; a sister,
Peggy Gee, Gainesville; brothers,
Larry Gee, Dahlonega, Pug Gee,
Doug Gee and Roger Gee, all of
Gainesville, Gary Gee, Gillsville;
and a host of other family and
friends.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, January 9, at Timber
Ridge Baptist Church with the
Revs. Dean Bryant, Alvin Burns,
Chris York, Billy Poole, and
Vernon London officiating. Burial
was at Memorial Park Cemetery.

arrangements.

Andrew Strickland
Andrew Strickland, 81, of
Maysville, died Saturday, January
5, 2008.
He was the son of the late O.G.
“Bud” and Lula
Mae Saxon
Strickland. He
owned and oper
ated Strickland
B Bar Que in
Commerce
for 34 years.
He served as
a councilman
for the City
of Maysville for over 33 years
and was a member of the Banks
County Board of Health for
many years. He was a member of
Maysville Baptist Church, where
he had served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel
Gowder Strickland, Maysville;
a son and daughter-in-law, Trent
and Jo Ann Thomas Strickland,
Maysville; grandsons and spouse,
Field and Jade Klugh Strickland,
and Drew Strickland; sister, Mary
Sears, Commerce.
Funeral services were held
Monday, January 7, atthe Maysville
Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan
Stowe officiating. Burial was in
Jackson Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be
made to Maysville Baptist Church
Building Fund.

Grace Whitfield Ray, 75, of
Homer, died Tuesday, January 1,
2008, at BJC Medical Center in
Commerce.

grandson and
spouse, Zane and
Mandy Ausburn;

Gilmer Glenn
Gilmer Franklin Glenn, 69, of
Maysville, died Friday, January 4,
2008.
Born on November 5, 1938, in
Jackson County,
he was the son
of the late W.R.
Glenn Jr. and
Frances Wilkes
Glenn. He was
retired from the
First Commerce
Bank and was a
member of the
Bethany United
Methodist Church.
Mr. Glenn was a vet- —
eran, having served in the United
States Army.
Survivors include his wife,
Barbara O’Kelley Glenn, Maysville;
sons, Jeff Glenn, Villa Rica, Darren
Glenn, Jefferson, and Sid Glenn,
Maysville; a sister, Lori Ethridge,
Jefferson; brothers, Danny R.
Glenn, Jefferson, and R. Garry
Glenn, Oakwood; five grandchil
dren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held
Monday, January 7, at the Bethany
United Methodist Church with the
Revs. Dean Bryant, Joe Hardy, and
Truman Humphries officiating.
Pallbearers were Hunter Glenn,
Taylor Glenn, Brandon Glenn,
Kason Glenn, Toby Glenn, and
Morgan Glenn. A private family
burial will be held at a later date.

Emmaleen Mae
Healan
Emmaleen Mae Campbell
Healan, 80, of Jefferson, died
Sunday, January 6, 2008.
She was born on May 30, 1927,
in Jackson
County, the
daughter of the
late Rev. Clay
Campbell and
Annie Martin
Campbell. She
was a homemak
er and a mem
ber of the White
Plains Baptist
Church. She also ran the sand
wich shop at the Crawford Long
Pharmacy for years. Mrs. Healan
was preceded in death by her hus
band, Royce Russell Healan; and a
daughter, Joan Wilson.
Survivors include a son
and daughter-in-law, Tom and
Christina Healan, Jefferson; sis
ters, Kathleen Bryant (her twin),
Pendergrass, and Dianne Farrow,
Smyrna; three grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, January 9, at White
Plains Baptist Church with the
Revs. Kevin Page, Jack Lawson
and Mike Phillips officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clay Wilson,
Howell Wilson, Darrell Hogan,
Dave Farrow, Jimmy Gooch and
Bobby Gooch.

Frank Sellers
Frank Blair Sellers, 57, of Mt.
Airy, died Saturday, January 5,
2008, at Habersham County
Medical Center, following a sud
den illness.
Born in Habersham County on
October 5, 1950, he was the son
of the late Thomas Roosevelt and
Lizzie Mae Owens Sellers. He was
self-employed and a member of
Welcome Home Baptist Church.
He was an avid hunter and a mem
ber of Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge
#141 F&AM. Mr. Sellers was
preceded in death by a brother,
Henry “Buddy” Sellers; and sister,
Willie Blanche Sellers.
Survivors include his wife, Janie
Sellers, Mt. Airy; daughter, Amber
Kirby, Oakwood; son, Jason
Sellers, Commerce; brothers,
Leon, Joe and Jim Sellers, all of
Mt. Airy; sisters, Julia Hermanson,
Macon, Jane Merck, Eatonton,
and Carolyn Sanders, Mt. Airy;
and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, January 8, at Hazel Creek
Baptist Church with the Rev. O.L.
McCullough and Dr. Kenneth
Franklin officiating. Burial was in
the church cemetery with the Rev.
Billy Burrell officiating.

Ruth Dickson
Ruth Sanders Dickson, 99, of
Carnesville, died Wednesday,
December 26, 2007.
She was born in October of 1908
in Commerce, the daughter of the
late Robert L. Sanders Sr. and
Pearl Richey Sanders. She mar
ried D. Hugh Dickson, Sr., in June
of 1933, and moved to Jonesboro,
where she lived until 1989, when
she returned to live in Commerce.
For the past 10 years, she lived
with Donna Hart in Carnesville,
where she received outstanding
care and love, according to loved
ones.
Survivors include children, Joan
Upton, California, and David
Dickson, Georgia; and several
grandchildren and great-grand
children.
Graveside services and burial
were held Tuesday, January 8,2008,
at Jonesboro City Cemetery.

arrangements.

Mildred Lord
Mildred Sims Lord, 79, of
Royston, died Tuesday, January 1,
2008, at her residence.
She was born in Jackson County
on March 31,1928, daughter of the
late Bud and Emma Lou Cleghorn
Sims. She was a former owner
and operator of a grocery store
and was a member of the Royston
Church of God, where she served
for the Church of God World
Missions, was a member of the
Children’s Cancer Society and the
St. Jude’s Children Research. Mrs.
Lord was preceded in death by
her husband, William Ralph Lord;
brothers, William Curtis Sims; and
a sister, Imogene Sims.
Survivors include sons, Ronald
Lord, Michael Lord and Tim
Gaudet, all of Royston; a daughter,
Elaine Rich, Athens; five grand
children; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Friday, January 4, at the Royston
Church of God with the Rev. James
Gunn officiating. Burial was in the
Rose Hill Cemetery.

Fannie Bell Pitts
Fannie Bell Brock Pitts, 75, of
Mt. Airy, died Saturday, January
5, 2008, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville, fol
lowing an extended illness.
Born in Banks County on June 7,
1932, she was the daughter of the
late Joe and Minnie Broome Brock.
She was retired from Mt. Vernon
Mills with 25 years of service, and
from Carwood Manufacturing,
with over 21 years of service. She
was a member of Welcome Home
Baptist Church, enjoyed planting
flowers, gardening, and spending
time with friends and family. Mrs.
Pitts was preceded in death by
her husband, Grady Pitts; daugh
ter, Lela “Lulu” Pitts; son, David
“Shine” Brock; and several broth
ers and sisters.
Survivors include daughters
and son-in-law, Shirley and Larry
Taylor, Patsy Lynn Brock and
Lerlene Dodd, all of Mt. Airy;
step-daughter, Gertrude Rider,
Clarkesville; step-son, Everett
Pitts, Mt. Airy, and Robert Pitts,
Valdosta; brother, Duckett Brock,
Baldwin, and Jack Brock, Mt.
Airy; sister, Pauline Brown, Mt.
Airy; grandchildren, Bradley
Loudermilk, Shane R. Pitts, David
Brock, Jonathan Pitts and Leta
Lomax; great-grandchildren,
Tanner and Kyler; and several
nieces and nephews.

Zachary Joseph Quesada, 25, of
Homer, died Sunday, December
30, 2007, at his residence.
He was the son of Jack
Joseph Quesada and Margaret
Hammons.

Ruby Strange
Ruby Strange, 94, of Cornelia,
died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at
her residence.
Born on October 15, 1913, in
Banks County, she was the daugh
ter of the late Jesse Harrison and
Hattie Pearl Garrison Strange.
She was a member of the B.C.
Grant Baptist Church and was
a retired seamstress at Carwood
Manufacturing with 35 years of
service. She was the last of her
immediate family. Mrs. Strange
was preceded in death by broth
ers, Clarence, Herman, Olin, and
Roy Strange; and a sister, Bonnie
Floy Croft.
Survivors include several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Monday, January 7, at the Whitfield
Funeral Home with the Rev. Doyal
Conley officiating. Burial was in
Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Larry Gene Keith, 65, of
Hoschton, died Monday, January
7, 2008.
A native and lifelong resident
of Jackson County, he was the
son Ruby Keith of Maysville and
the late Henry T. Keith. He was
a retired poultry worker and mill
industrial worker.
