Quilting Teacher To Present
Program At Library Feb. 28
The Cold Sassy Quilters will
present a program featuring
long-time quilting teacher Marge
LaBenne Thursday Feb. 28, at
5:30 in the meeting room of the
Commerce Public Library.
LaBenne, who has been teach
ing others to quilt since 1988,
will present KISS (Keep It Simply
Squares), which will demonstrate
what beautiful quilts can be made
with squares and rectangles.
LaBenne will return in March
to conduct a workshop on this
technique, where participants
will make a wall quilt using the
Sawtooth Sampler pattern. Using
the basic shapes of the square,
the half-square triangle and the
quarter-square triangle, a variety
of stars can be made by replac
ing the center square of the tradi
tional block.
In her Feb. 28 presentation,
LaBenne will show many exam
ples of quilts made using the KISS
patterns, including the Sawtooth
Sampler, which will be taught in
March.
Space will be limited for the
March workshop, but those who
come to the Feb. 28 program will
be able to register for the work
shop.

New Exhibit
Opens This Week
Local artist Ted Crumley has
been a musician for many years,
but two years ago he picked up
a paintbrush and branched out.
Inspired by the work of the late
Bob Ross, and by his own love of
the outdoors, he began recording
what he saw in nature.
The walls of the library’s meeting
room now display these visions:
of sunset in a swamp, a barn on a
snowy day, mountains, lakes, and
walks in the woods.
Crumley says that he has both
sold paintings and given them to
family members. His wife Lisa,
a member of the library’s staff,
says that some of the works on
display usually hang on the walls
of their home — and she wants
them back!
