home out on his place and will move
out thero at onco.
The average man thinks the E. T.
Vi Sc G’s. trains slow, judging by
those between this city and Jesup,
but those who go beyond Jesup find
a difference—whenever tho trains are
behind hand—and that is every day,
they run nearly a milo a minute over
much of the route.
. One to Every 04.
Wore wo to announce that thero
wof one bar-room in this city to every
sixty-four men, our people would
hold up their hands in amazement,
and yet this is true. The Clerk and
Treasurer informs us that there have
been issued by himself for the year
1884 twheuty lour retail liquor 11
censes, one beer license, and one
wholesale liquor license. This will
make 25 retail establishments. Our
population is estimated all tho way.
from 6,000 to 10,000, according to tho
ideas of tho individual. Take the
happy medium, and we hnvc 8,000,
which we shall use as our basis. Now
estimating one voter to oveiy five,
wo have just 1,000 men. Divide this
number by 25, and we have 64 men
to every bar-room in town. At first
glance this looks terrible, but upon
reflection it is not quite so bad, for
wo have at all times a large number
of people in toyrn, and who arc not
citizens. Furthermore, the counties
from here to Albany aro all “dry,” as
also a largo number between here
and Macon, so that many of those
bar-rooms really get their maia sup
port from those “dry” counties
through the medium of the “jug
trade.”
The Clerk further informed us
that the amount accruing from these
licenses is just $5,000, which goes in
to tho city treasury.

woise than an emery wheel would do,
and cuts glass like diamond. Mr, D.
informs us that ho is going to try a
harder variety of steel on his ma
chine, and if that fails he will have
to stop where ho is, and Jetor Sc
Boardman and the people of Ocala
will be compelled to content them
selves with the present flow, which is
ample, but which they wanted to ex
change for a better one from under-
derneath that flint strata.
That Great Need-.
Every man, women and elild whoso
sad lot it is to bo compelled to change
cavs at Jesup from one road to tho
other, heaps anathemas upon the
town, instead of upon the railroads.
It is a shame and a disgrace that the
two roads don’t combine and put up
a proper waiting room. There is no
place provided for passengers and no
hotel to stop at. This is gross injus
tice to tho traveling public and to
tho town as well. The two roads
work togethei ,tnke each others trains
over their own tracks, and should
look oat for their passengers with
more care.

this fact to ship largo quantities of
the foreign article South, marked
and branded as Peerless.

Making Brick.
Albany, Feb. 20.—Work upon tho
brick yards which was suspended for
a few weeks in the winter, haa been
resumed. The clay near the banks
of Flint river, near Albany, seems
peculiarly adapted to tho manufac
ture of a fine quality of brick. This
is a profitable industry here, the
lands aro cheap and it will t become
a very important one.
