oil, nut aU. cocoanut oil, etc., at abmit

churned with milk tor some time, jvlien
it ia allowed to flow in a gentio straw
into ico cold water, where it permanently
solidifies. It in then milled or ground,
and this operation removea cxcetw ot milk
and insure* perfect blending; at tho same
time a email quantity of salt is added,
when we obtain the finished article. The
coloring matter and butter, if required,
are blended in during this part of the op
eration. This is in principle the |>rcee*s of
•'margarine manufacture. In separating
atearino from oleine in animal fats the
soft futs or greases are used in preference
to tho' lianl fats or tallow. Beef fat is
always used, da being more pnmtable.
Tho stoarlne is sometimes employed for
candle or soap making; not infrequently
it is mixed with other fats and passed off
as lard; but this mixture would reveal
an enormous proportion of stearine, by
being harder and not so easily fusible ns
lard. To get over this, cotton oil is
added to make the mixture more closely
approach the nature and properties of
lord.
A short time ago, when experiment
ing on margarine, Mr. T. Bruce Warren
found, after removing n large quantity of
cotton oil, that a quantity of cocoanut oil
was present. He was completely sur
prised at this result, for the smell of
cocoanut oil is so unmistakable. He
found that cotton seed oil completely
masks the smell and flavors of this oil.
Many may nsk why, ubove nil others,
should this have been selected for mnr-'
garincl In tho first place, being a con
crete oil or fat, it is well adapted for such
a purpose; provided its smell and flavor
could lie concealed. In the second place,
it approaches more closely than any other
vegetable or nninial fat to the composi
tion of genuine dairy butter.—Diet and

Not only are tho priests subjected to

further than this, the entire system of

“Is there not,” she said, hesitatingly,

' "Well, yes,” tho captain replied re
flectively, "there is, there is. So many

careless baiulling of firearms as is almost

Miss Lollipop shuddered, and then re

“Are npt somo peoplo severely injured

"Yes,” the captain said, “they are. I

A certain public official, who will bo

surprise party at his houso on Valentine’s

only one person, a young gentleman of
extremely immature age, whose relation

question is very close. The latter was
greatly pleased. He liad been for years

He kissed the new arrival with much
