a woman. Martin got two axes,
handing one to Rye, proposing a
duel. They fought until Rye had
lb >th arms severed and fell dead.
Martin received horrible gashes,
about the head and breast and is
dying.

A few days ago Martin Irons, the
noted leader of the railrond strike
of 1886 was arrested on a charge of
assaulting a sevc: - ear-old child.
Last Saturday Irons was released
on bail, but the enraged mother of
the alleged victixi, Mrs Antoi io Es

Yesteidiy morning she came up
behind Irons with a heavy club and
deal! him a blow that {knocked him
senseless. I terfcience- prevented
more serious injury.

Bank President Convicted.

the-federal court at Aberdeen, E,
L. Tarry, president of the First
National bank, of Starkville, which
failed last year, was convicted un
der section 5209, Revised Statutes
of the United States.
The charge was misapplicatio
of the bank’s credit. Tne min
mum penalty is fiv3 years impris
onment. Other officers of the bank
have been indicted.
