T BE ALLIANCE of GEORGIA.
It waa determined by the late Coi -
ventiou of this Organisation of the
State, representing 80,000 farmers,
that cotton bagging shall be used in
the place ol Jute bagging. This ac¬
tion of the Alliance of Georgia if
adopted by the Organization in the
rest of the Southern States,, proclaims
the downfall of the Jnte trust for the
present, and all future time. Unity
of action is all that is required by the
farmers, to bring this as well as other
trusts to grief. What if it does, cost,
the farmer 25 cents per. bale more to
cover their cotton in cotton! They
will more than make it up, in the en¬
hanced price that they will receive for
their cotton, by finding an outlet for
come 200,000 bales of tbe raw materi¬
al . The only difficulties in the way
that we can see are those expressed in
the Atlanta Constitution of tbe Stb,
inst. 1. Cau the mills supply a suffi¬
cient quantity o! bagging to control
the market. 2. Can the farmers sc
satisfy the mills of their resolution, as
to get them to accumulate the amount
of cotton bagging needed? S. Can
the farmers be held to tbe use of cot¬
ton bagging tbe year through when it
cost more than the Jute bagging? As
to the first question, we think it de¬
pends largely upon the assurances the
Organization can give in answer to
the second and third questions. We
believe that the farmers are in earnest
that they intend to whip this fight a*
whatever cost to them fiuancially. The
only question is to make cotton man¬
ufacturers and capitalist believe the
same, to secure cotton bagging in suf¬
ficient quantities to bale the entire
cotton crop. Can this be done? We
believe so. In tbe first place any mem
ber of the Alliance wfee should fail to
act in accord with the Orgonization,
would be looked upon as a recreant
to hie obligations, and immediately
-discharged or diepelled. Second. If
any reliance can be placed in the far
mers as a body they have certainly in
the last convention through their rep¬
resentatives, in honor bound them
selves to abide and sustain the action
of that body. If asseverations and res
olutions mean anything, then every
member in the Alliance of Georgia
are as firmly and morally bound as
can be well done. We would like to
know why any one should doubt the
farmer sticking end standing together
in this matter? Is it not to their in¬
terest to do so? Then let us give
them credit for sufficient understand¬
ing to recognize the justness of the
c.iuse for which they are contending,
and the moral courage oftheir convic¬
tions. II necessary to give further as¬
surance, to get a sufficient quantity of
cotton bagging, to bring disaster upon
the Jute bagging trust, let the Alliance
Exchange be instructed by the Alli¬
ance of Georgia to pledge every dol¬
lar subscribed to the exchange, t<>
that purpose, aud let every member of
the Alliance take at least sufficiem
amount of stock in the exchange to
cover thecost of bagging that he must
use. Let them do this and all dvtuht
will cease, for the money will be up to
to give double assurance to the mills
that the farmer is in earnest, and that
this fight is to the death, Farmers;
tillers of soil; you who fight the battle
of life to give sustenance to tbe world,
gird on your armor; array yourselves
shoulder to shoulder, and admiwin g no
such words as fail march against these
•hylocks of Trusta, whose only object
is to wrench tbe hard earnings of your
toil, and to keep you forever the
“iiawers of wood and «iarwere ot water"
to their insatiable avarice.
