cA SNOT ED OPTICIAN.
Wc have in our city, Dr. J. D. Van
Alien, an optician and oeculist of note
and repute. Dr. Van Allen has stud
ied under the celebrated oeculist, Dr.
Calhoun, and ia also a graduate of se\-
erul lending colleges. lie. came to our
city at the earnest solicitation of sev
eral who had never been able or bad
the opportunity of having ilnur eyes
properly tested and fitted wiih the;
glasses that their ease rerjuired.
lie has been here one week, and will j
he here next week, and has bis oilier ;
at the Gibson Drug Co. lie. bus with I
him all the paraphernalia that is used
in the large cities, consisting of Kct-
iuoscopcs, Ophthalmometers, Ophthal
moscopes, and a complete trial case
willi all testing lenses, thereby en
abling all to have the same advantages
of procuring the proper glasses as il
they were to make a trip to Atlanta or
New York. In testing eyes, we find
after an interview with the gonial Doc
tor, a man must understand bis bus
iness and know bow to treat cases of
sligmatism, myopia pryamopia, and
also all defects of the eye.
A great many eases do not require
any medicine, but simply a correct
fitting pair of glasses. The Doctor
deplores the fact that the many so call
ed opticians, who travel the country and
who have never seen inside of an op
tical college, are fakirs, and do a great
deal of damage and in many instances
ruin the eyes forever, either partially
or totally destroying the eye sight.
The eyes are the most delicate pait
of the human anatomy and the eye
sight is tiie most gracious gift of an
Allwiso and merciful God, and wc
should guard them as precious jewels
ak when once gone can never be re
gained and all the beauties of this
world are forever shut out from us.
We should never allow our eyes to be
come weak for the lack of a pair of
glasses, and no one should prize a few
dollars above their most valuable pos
sess, on—good eyesight.
Wo tonnd the Doctor to he a cour.
toons and agreeable gentleman and to
thoroughly understand his business,
and lie tests the eyes free of charge
and everyone who are in need of any-
thilig in hits line should pay him ft vis
It as consultation cost you nothing.
The Doctor guarantees all his work,
and should the glasses sold not come
up to his guarantee to fit and give per
fect satisfaction, he returns your mon
ey-
We emphasize the fact that all who
need anything in this lino should pay
a visit to Dr. Van Alien.

We nre enjoying the beautiful weath
er very much although the work has to
go on. 13ut the people in our section
like that, they enjoy work, especially
in spring time.
Quite a number of our friends attended
the Memorial exercises in Thomson,
l’trsimmou and Poinegranito among
the number.
Mr. ’Editor, speaking of the picnic,
certainly we would enjoy one, and wc
appreciate your kindness very much
and will do all we can to make the day
pleasant. Really we think if we could
get up a few pieces and our worthy
Editor give us an address on that day
it would bo very interesting. You
asked us to suggest a place. Don't you
think on a creek near by would be au
excellent place ? But if we decide to
have a programme wo think Loneville
or Ilerzelia either one would do. Lone
ville would be more suitable as some
of us live quite a distance from the
depot iu Thqmson. Now wo just give
this as a mere suggestion aud as our
views, hut it will be all right with us
for the Editor to decide the plaeo thou
all of us will agree. Nevertheless we
are willing to do all we can as our Edi
tor was kind enough to offer us a picnic.
Mr. Editor wliul about an address from
you ?
Wo have a poem that we think very
profitable. It is an old poem but tbe
meaning and beauty is ever new. Itis
cutitled, ‘-What May I Do As a Chris

“When you think, when you speak,
When yon read, when you write,
When you sing, when you walk,
When yoV seek tor delight i
To bo kept from all wrong.
When at home or abroad.
Live always under
The eye of the Lord.
