speech in Atlanta last night, favoring the
holding of a convention.
—W. L. Clifton, who was stabbed by
James Rataree, in Atlanta, on Christmas
day, died Tuesday. Rataree is at large.
—John Immel has been elected Chief
of the Atlanta Fire Department, with E.
M. Berry and Jerry Lynch as assistants.
—D. C. Gregory, ex-Uuited States Sen
ator from California, has shipped 200
Merino sheep to his farm in Floyd
county.
—The Atlanta Bar Association had a
jamboree Monday night. L. E. Buckley
was elected President. They recommend
the appointment of an additional Superior
Court Judge for the county.

—Sixty six merchants and others of
Union Springs, in order to suppress steal
ing, have signed it pledge not to purchase

—Conductor Culvin \V. Sayre, of the
Montgomery A. Hufatilu Railroad, left his
ticket box on a cur seat while he break-
fasted at Uniou Springs. On his return
he fount! it gone, and ascertained from a
negro passenger that “ n yellow man with
a hat on ” was the thief. The negro in
formant was suspected by Sheriff Cowan,
who urrested him. Search revealed iu his

/' vet . He had taken the box to one side,
seemed the money, returned to the cars
and looked innocent. He now rests pla
cidly in jail.
