Club To Give Berry
Buyers More Time
BY BRENDA THOMPSON
Staff Writer
Because they have received such
overwhelming response, the Perry
Exchange Club announced this
week that they will continue taking
reservations for fresh Florida straw
berries through March 14.
“Since we first announced our
strawberry sale in your paper last
week, our phones have been ringing
off the hook,” project coordinator
Carol Cox told the Houston Times-
Journal this week. “Our initial dead
line was set for February 28, but
since we have already pre-sold 250
flats with orders still rolling in, we
have decided to extend the deadline a
couple more weeks.”
A first-time project for the local
Exchange Club, Cox said all straw
berries being sold will come fresh
from Florida and will be delivered
to Perry within 24 hours of pick
ing. All berries will be sold by flat
with each flat costing $lO and
containing 12 pints of berries.
