Smith, son of James E. and Susan
E. Smith of Perry, who departed for
a six-month deployment aboard the
destroyer USS Comte de Grasse,
homeporied in Norfolk, Va., to the
Mediterranean. Smith is one of the
crewmembers aboard the 9,100- ton
USS Comte de Grasse. He joined
the Navy in September 1993.

and Betsy Thomas have been named
to the fall quarter President's List at
Mercer University's College of
Liberal Arts. Inclusion to the
President's List requires that a
student earn a 4.0 GPA while
taking at least 10 hours of
coursework.

they served Feb. 12-19, as a mission
team from First Baptist Church.

Rick Stanley, a dynamic preacher
and Mend for more than 12 years of
Dr. John Yarbrough, will be at Fust
Baptist Church for four days (April
10-13). He was reared in Graceland
mansion as the step-brother of Elvis
Presley.

Perry Kiwanis Club will partici
pate in the Georgia Kiwanis
Statewide Art Contest this year.
The contest is open to students in
grades 6-12.
The art may take any form, such as
painting, drawing, printmaking,
photography, ceramics, sculpture,
metal work, graphic design, mixed
media and crafts.
Entries in the contest will be due
March 19 from 10 a.m. until noon
at the Perry Public Library, 1201
Washington SL, Perry (across from
Bank South). They will be judged
the week of March 21-26.
The state finals will be held on
April 9. Scholarship money will be
awarded to state winners in grades
10-12. Call Judy Golden, contest
chairman, at 987-3050 if you have
