By PAULINE LEWIS
Staff Writer
"I learned to cook when I was
about six years old and have loved
cooking ever since then my
mother taught me," so stated Danny
Code, the only cook at New Perry
Hotel, and the Houston Times-
Journal's Cook of the Week.
Code's ambition is to become a
certified chef, but first he has to
take the GED test (he completed the
11th grade at Perry High School)
and then complete the work at
Macon Technical Institute to be
come a chef.
He has already completed two
years in food services at Macon
Tech and two years of food services
at the Houston County Vocational
School.
He worked for two years at
Kellwood on machinery and at the
Agricenter for three years tying
steel when the facility was under
construction. In fact, he says that
he was the third person out there

ters. He also has two brothers liv
ing in Perry and a "baby sister" liv
ing in West Virginia that he plans
to visit this month "after the
Mother's Day rush" at the hotel,
and after his 37th birthday on May
10.
As a boy, he played all kinds of
sports and still likes them, but is
especially fond of football and fish
ing, although he said does not have
time for fishing and he watches
football on TV when he has an op
portunity.
"I have 29 rows in my garden", he
stated, "with peas, butter beans, cu
cumbers, tomatoes, turnips, rutaba
gas and peppers."
He attends Kings Chapel C.M.E.
Church.
The first two recipes with sweet
