However, Westfield finished strong,
winning six of their last 10 games.
Three of the season losses, and two
of the four losses in the last 10
games, have come at the hands of
the Eagles.
"It was disappointing at times,”
said Brown of the Hornet's season,
"when you are looking at some of
the really close games we lost early
in the season."
Brown said the low moment
came when Westfield lost the 11th
of their first 13 games. He said he
thought that the team might not
win another game that season.
"It would've been very easy for
that to have happened," said Brown.
"But, the boys fought back and re
bounded. To their credit, they didn’t
give up.

season turned out to be ok. We

Baseball belonged to Waldrip.
The only senior on the Panthers
took home two of the three awards.
Waldrip took home the trophy in
recognition of the highest batting
average, with an average of .410.
He also was named as the team's
MVP, after hitting five homers and
knocking in 30 runs. Jason Brett
won the golden glove award for his
play at shortstop and on the mound.
Keith Wimberly and Eric
Richardson joined King and Felton

who was named Middle Georgia

award. Richardson was the team
captain.
The men’s basketball team was
one of the more successful Panther
teams in the 1993-94 school year.
The Panthers won the 2AAA region
crown, finishing the season with a
25 game winning streak at the Pan
ther Pit.
Taylor, Leggett and Fendley

the most improved player, Fendley
received the coach's award and
Leggett was named M.V.P.
Cheerleading is also starting to
come into its own as a sport, fea

spots that were filled by players re-
record in the, but we wound up
with a respectable finish."
The Hornets would have their
best charices to score on the Eagles
in the third and sixth innings.
In the third inning, Westfield ral
lied with two outs. Brian Staines
started the inning by reaching on an
Eagle error. Matt Shepley singled
to center to place runners on the

runners on first and second.
However, Beddingfield struck out
the next Hornet to record the final

shutout.

Hurricane Tour is to give up and

to make the cut at the Nike Tour
tournament.
Unlike many tours, the Hurri

for spectators, with purses coming
from entry fees paid by the golfers
participating in the event.
"Our philosophy is to put the
players on the best possible golf
courses and put them in a position
to win, give them something to
draw on," said Dara O'Neill in vj\

home to catch Hawk at the plate.
The Hornets could manage only
five hits off Stratford pitching. Tal
ton paced the Westfield offense with
two of those hits. Shepley, Hawk
and Jake Walls got the other hits in
the game.
Russ Branyan and Joey Cranford
paced the Eagle attack, getting two
dingers each. Branyan, Cranford and
Robbie Camp combined for the
back-to-back-to-back homers in the
fifth, with Branyan getting a three
run shot.
Branyan hurt the Hornet staff
throughout the year, collecting five
homers off Westfield, three with the
short fences in Macon and two at
the Hornets' Nest.
All told, the powerful Eagle
lineup put 11 balls out of the park
against the Hornets. However, nine
of those homers came in Macon,
with Branyan being the only Eagle
to find the range in Perry.
Mills dominated the softball
awards, taking home awards for best

Fendley took home the coach's
award on the women's team. Hilary
Smith was named the M.V.P. for
the women.

King. Wimberly took home the
coach's award, while Hill took
home the field event award.
Only two awards were given in
women's track, with Jackson being
named most cooperative and Taylor
getting the nod for M.V.P.
Hill received his third trophy of
the night in wrestling, winning
recognition as captain of the
wrestling team, a team that went

dual meets. Eric Felder came out for
wrestling for the first time, and
won the most improved award.
