Carter promised the Rotary Club
that he would be tighifisted with
the public's money, maintaining
"stringent control of scarce re
sources.”
Ragin, who won the Houston
County D.A.R. Good Citizen
Award as a senior at Perry High
School, told the Rotary Club that
he has dedicated himself to public
service since his high school years,
citing as one of the reasons he
moved back to Perry was a "lack of
my fulfillment in the civic arena."
"I would like to join the com
mission and offer my services to
the county and the commission,"
said Ragin. "The opportunity to
serve is a responsibility I do not
take lightly."
Ragin and Carter are the only
two South Houston candidates to
survive the primary of July 19th.
Carter came close to winning the
Republican nomination outright,
taking 1,139 votes, or 48.8 percent
of the total cast. He will face Jack
Wylam in the runoff Aug. 9.
Ragin also captured over 40 per
cent of the vote in the general pri
mary, getting 3,032 votes. He will
face Billy Hunter in the runoff Aug.
9. Hunter captured just under 36
percent of the vote.
Carter and Ragin are both em
ployed by Northrop Corporation.
