Andy Bacon earns highest Scouting honor

Joseph Andrew Bacon was
presented his Eagle Badge in a
recent ceremony held at Crossroads
United Methodist Church.
The ceremony included
presentation of his award by Bobby
Tuggle, Scoutmaster of Troop 96,
when Andy's uncle, the late Carl
Boland, was presented his Eagle
Badge 32 years earlier.
Troy Gay, Scoutmaster of Troop
96, presided over the Eagle Court of
Honor which included lighting the
Eagle Trail with Eagle Scouts T.
J. Gay and Jonathan Bowling.
The Eagle Charge was given by
Eagle Scout Shannon Fonda, past
Chief, Order of the Arrow Lodge.
The Eagle Pledge was given by
Eagle Scout William Scwatz, past
Chief, Order of the Arrow Lodge.
The many Eagle Scouts in die
audience joined Andy to renew their
Eagle Scout Pledge.
Andy's mother, Annie Bacon,
pinned the Eagle badge upon his
chest with much pride, and read a
poem to her son that was
specifically wrtten for him and his
years of scouting, and the cutting of
apron strings so he could soar with
the best of the Eagles.
In turn. Andy presented his
father, Lynn Bacon, an Eagle tie
clasp and his mother, the Eagle pin
attached to a red rose corsage with
red, white and blue ribbon.

Before die Court of Honor was
over, everyone was led into the
social hall by Billy McDaniel, the
Senior Patrol leader of Troop 96.
Once the 120 guests were seated
in the social hall, the Echeconnee
Lodge Order of the Arrow dance
team performed the Eagle Trap.
The dancers included: Bruce
Silverstein, advisor and drummer;
David Silverstein, Rhelt Parker,
Matt Johnson, Will Hall, Darrel
and Joey Gibbons.
It was a beauuful performance in
tribute to Andy and his achievement
in earning his Eagle.
The Eagle Court of Honor was
closed by the Rev. Phillip
Thomason, then pastor of
Crossroads United Methodist
Church.
Among die special guests were:
Andy's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Boland from Blairsville; Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Bacon from Perry;
Mr. and Mrs. Randy Boland; Mr.
and Mrs. Chris Boland and children,
Naomi and Sarah, all from
Blairsville; Boy Scouts in Troop
96, and from all over Middle
Georgia.

Johnson of Perry. The groom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C.
Small, also of Perry. Kelley Bennet
of Artlanta was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were: Julie Bishop of
Perry, Kim Forbes of Warner
Robins, Cindy Horton of Marietta,
Marti Jorddan of Memmpis, Tenn.,
and Alissa Storey of Columbia, S.
C. (formerly of Perry). Junior
attendants were Karen Walker of
Charleston, S. C., Mandy Burgess
of Summerville, S.C., and
Kaeleigh Heath of Macon.
Brad Bolton of Jonesboro,
Alaska, was best man. Usher
groomsmen were John Bishop,
Tom Arnett of New Britain, Conn.,
the bride's brother Lance Johnson,
Mark King, Shannon Smith of
Marietta and the groom's brother
Brandy N. Small.
A reception was held at the
home of the bride's parents. After a
wedding trip to Cibonney Resort in
Ocho Rios, Jamaica, the Smalls are
living in Warner Robins.

Padgett of Kathleen, upon their
50th wedding anniversary. Their
children honored them with a
reception Oct. 22 at Houston Lake
Baptist Church. Padgett and the
former Thelma Louise Hunter were
married Oct. 23, 1944, in
Fitzgerald. Their chldren are Elaine
Moody of Warner Robins, Alan
Padgett, Terry Padgett and the late
Larry Padgett. They have eight
grandchildren and one great
grandchild.

Scouts of America as a second grade
Tiger Cub to Pack 419. He earned
his Arrow of Light, completing his
four-year Cub Scout program.
The trail to Eagle began after he
transferred into Boy Scouts in April

Birhtday celebration
Mrs. Mildred Smith Kennedy of Macon celebrated her
90th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1994, joining the
growing number of nonagenarians in this area. Her fam
ily honored her with a luncheon at the Henderson Bap
tist Church on Sunday, Aug. 6. A native of Henderson,
Mrs. Kennedy is the sister of the late Maida Smith Ra
gan, also of Henderson. Family members who attended
were from Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.
