HOUSTON COUNTY FOOTBALL 2007

in 2005, started every game after the second
week that year, and then went back to the
back-up role as a junior. The competition this
year comes from junior WJ. McAllister, who
doesn’t have the experience but does have the
ability, the size and the speed.
“To me, that’s the position where it helps to
have experience,” said Way. “He’s in charge
of everything. They are splitting reps and will
continue to do that until one guy wins the
job. We’re not “thinking about having a set
rotation. Some situations may dictate we play
one more than the other. You have to wait
and see how it works out. We’re giving them
equal reps and waiting for one to take the bull
by the horns and say, ‘This is going to be my
job.’”
In the Demon backfield, the starters will
go in as unproven commodities, but have
plenty of ability not to mention quite a bit of
depth. There are basically three spots behind
the quarterback: tailback, fullback and wing
back. Way said Warner Robins goes about
three deep at each one.
“There’s a lot of competition there, so that’s
going to make each other better,” he said. “At
wingback we have Darius Lane, who played a
lot last year on defense. Keith Andrews has
made a tremendous amount of improvement
as a junior. We don’t have any reservations
about having Keith in there as opposed to
Darius. Ambrose Kendrick, another junior, is
making significant strides.

“We have three fullbacks whom we all
think can get the job done. That’s two seniors,
Brandon Jordan and Stephen Watts, and a ju
nior, Joe Dempsey. At running back we have
Rashad Wynes and Aaron Allen. John Jack
son was in that mix, but he broke his foot, so
he’s out for at least four more weeks.”
As usual, Warner Robins does live and die
with the running game. Way said the
things have gone in the summer, the run
is well ahead of the passing game ... at least
from a receiving point of view. He said there’s
nothing wrong with Sams’ and McAllister’s
throws, but the struggles are in catching the
football.
“Until we get consistent catching it, we’re
going to run it,” said Way. “It doesn’t do any
good to throw it out there and drop it. That’s
a wasted down in our point of view.”
Warner Robins is gaining some attention
at its offensive line with one of the state’s top
rated tackles in Robbie Bailey
“He’s a very good athlete for a guy that
size,” said Way about the 6-4, 330-pounder.
“He’s got quick feet, good balance. He’s a
good football player. He’s going to be the one
we lean on. We have some other guys in James
Erickson, Collin Hops, Darius Hudson. They
are all going to be good players. Probably
our most consistent guy is our center, Caleb
Turner, who got almost no playing time last
year, but he’s had the best summer practice
out of any of them.”
Warner Robins moved junior Derek Stover
from defense to fill a guard spot.
