gain since the Governor's electiou.
The Charleston Courier says the Harrison mo.
jority iu North Carolina is expected to reach 10,-
000.
. MASSACIITSETTS.
The Boston Transcript of Saturday states that
the vote for Governor was as follows;
John Davis, 70,050
Marcus Morton, 54,107
Whig Majority, 15,889
Whig gain since 18:19,10,120.
The mercantile Journal states that the majority
on the electoral ticket, New Marlboro only to
hear from, is 18,347. That town in 1839 gave n
Van Buren majority or 10; ir it does the same
this year, the majority for Harrison in the State
is lb,331.
ILLINOIS.
There are many additional returns from Illinois,
both from the Northern extremity and Southern
—but they tire scattering and imperfect, nnd do
not yet enable ns tn pronounce with certainly up
on the electoral vote of that state. From the
North, Dn Page, Lake end Kano counties hare
given small Harrison majorities; while the coun
ties of Conk, La Sallo, and Will, have given
strong majorities for Vun Daren. On the other
hand, the Wubnsh county has gone strongly for
Harrison. The Whigs tmvo gained largely on
tho whole, but the result is yet doubtful.
MISSOURI
Will go fbr Van Buren, but by a reduced ma
jority. In St. Louis, die vote cost in August whs
400:L—ill November 4391. Tho Whig majority
is about 050. In several of the neighboring
counties tho Whigs hnvo also majorities—Inn not
enough, it raid, to overcome the heavy Van Bu
ren counties in the interior.
Atuhtic 8teamzrs—The New York Com

tion that the moment the Philadelpiu Banks re*
siime, they willjalso. The resumption by the
U. S. Bank and others nt Philadelphia will cause
almost an entire change in the circulation of Bank
notes at die South oud West.
The Storm—A severe storm liosbceu raging here
md along the coast for ten days past. Ourhnr-
tor is full of vessels and tho tides have hardly
been higher in tho memory of our oldest inhabit
