become doubly interesting and valuable.
The second was delivered last night, and
to-morrow evening the third and last of
the course will be delivered. The object
of these Lectures is tb'aid the fund for'
finishing the repairs on the First Baptist

7 A Word About Cohn.—-A gentleman
wrjtes a note to the Abbeville Danner,
under date of August 17th, and SaJ-s'
that he is in receipt of a letter typin'a
friend somewhere in South Carolisia,
who informs him that old coc-o is selling
thfere at 1 fifty cents per bushel, and that
he never saw as good a prospect for the
jghsging crop ; and he adds, that if no
disaster befalls it, the tjgw crop will be
sold at twenty-five cents per bushel:
fie gentleman says he will soon
-know -what it will cost to deliver the
corn-at Abbeville. He dares not say
wbere the corn is, as some grasping,
cannibalistic speculator would forestall
in the purchase.
. lletati. Dealers’ License.— ln refer
ence to the re-asseSsment of a retail
dealers’ license. Revenue Commissioner
Harjand has decided that if a merchant’s
sales during the year, of the class men
doped, did not exceed fifty thousand
dollars, the total amount of tax due for
Ins license, as a dealer, did not exceed
fifty dollars. Having paid the ten dol
lars upon receiving the license, the re
assessment should have been for the
sum of forty dollars only. If he has
bpyij assessed anil paid a larger sum for
said; license, the excess should be re
turned, and the District Assessor’s duty
is to> assist the mefehant in making out
a proper claim.
