“ I beg you will acquaint their I.ordfhips, that at day
light on the 28th ult. Cape Clear hearing N. E. distance 20
leagues, 1 saw a fail tlofe under the lee bow, and imme
diately flood towards her ; after a chafe of 22 hours, hav
ing got up alongside of her, (he struck to his Majesty’s
ship. She is an American privateer brig, called the Wex
ford, mounts 20 twelve pounders, carries 120 men, and
ij 320 tons burthen. She has been only fix weeks from
Boftan, and had taken nothing,”

city, accompanied by the Hon. Admiral Digby;
he was received at landing by his Excellency the
Commander in chief, accompanied by the Gover
nor, the Admirals, Generals, and other great of
ficers of the Crown, conducted to Commodore

in the evening retired to apartments provided for
his accommodation in Wall Street.
Yesterday the militia and independent companies
appeared under arms, and his Royal Highness was
Taiuted by them ett paffant to the house of his Ex
cellency Lieut. Gen. Robertfon* where an elegant
dinner was provided for the Prince.

our idea of the extent of his goodness.

December 4* Last Saturday arrived a cartel

we heir that when she left that place the French
troops were fortifying thegarrifons of York Town,
Gloucester, and their other ports, in,the strongest
manner; that loon after the departure of the rebel
army from York Town they treated the Thirteen
Stripes with ihe highest marks of indignity, and
immediately displayed the Gallick Standards on
! their forts ; that their publick orders are now dated
in NEW FRANCE; and that the greatest animo
sity and dillruil prevails betwixt the inhabitants,
and their great and good allies.
In however exalted a light the condua of the
French was viewed by the rebels when they firft
en ß a £ et ( hi their cause, we may venture to affirm
the principal part pf the Virginians at this day are
Tuily sensible that the late powerful afiiliance ren
dered by the Grand Monarque to the arms of
Congress originated from motives not purely difin

Dec. 11. By advices from the Back Country
we learn, that Major Cunningham, a few days
~ after the affair at Cloud’s Creek, attacked a party
4° rebels under the command of Col. Hayes,
ported in a block-house at Mr. EdgehilPs plantati
on, within 15 miles of Ninety-Six. The enemy
made a vigorous resistance, until the house was set
on fire, and the roof fell in, when they weie ob
liged to submit, with the loss of Col. Hayes, Capt.
Owens, Capt. Leonard, Capt. Williams. Capt.
Hancock, and ten privates, killed. Major Cun
ningham had only one man killed, and five (lightly
wounded.
Dec. \%, Yeftcrday morning departed this life,
in the 75 th year of his age, Robert Brisbane, Esq!
a native of North Britain, but who had resided
50 years in this province. His philanthropy,

has been received of the total loss of his Majesty’s ship Pe

feroons of indigo. The troops then returned to Rattan

men. It has however given the Spaniards the fevered

St. Pedro being their principal depot of military stores, for
supplying Omoa and their other settlements in the Hay 0 f
