Superior
Judge Humphrey Administers Oath
to Veniremen.
Chicago, March 21.—Government
Investigation of the beef trust began
today. Judge j. Otis Humphrey, of
Springfield, administered the oath to
the veniremen, whose names have
been kept a profound secret for three
weeks by the officials of the United
States district attorney's office. Much
information bearing on specific in
stances of alleged violations of the
Sherman anti trust law is said to be
in the hands of the federal prosecu
tor. The Independent packers, head
ed by Schwarzchild & Sulzberger,
have arranged to submit evidence for
the government tending to show the
manner in which smaller packers have
been forced to follow the dictation of
the so-called “big five.”
Because of the failure to secure six
teen men who are, in the opinion of
Judge Humphrey, sufficiently removed
in business affairs from the packing
industry, the swearing in of the Jury
was delayed until tomorrow. Eight
witnesses have been subpoenaed to
appear before the Investigators to
morrow.
ME88ENGER A88AULTED IN CAR.
Claims That the Man Who Assaulted
Him Robbed the Car.
Chattanooga, Tenn., March 21.—
Mai Pruett, the Southern Express
Company's messenger on SouthiWi
Railway train No. 35. leaving here
for Memphis at 8:10 o'clock today,
wns acsaulted in his car near Look
out Station, a few miles out of the
city, by Will Thomas, a former mes
senger. Thomas claims the assault
was the result of a personal difficulty,
but Pruett says robbery was the mo
tive. Pruett was struck in tho head
with a piece of timber and is now in
the hosptal. He stated that two pack
ages of money and a package of vouch
ers were missing.
After striking Pruett, Thomas ap
plied the emergency brakes and
jumped from the train. He was cap
tured and is in jail here. The sudden
stopping of the train caused much ex
citement among the passengers, who
rushed out of the cars and aided in
the pursuit and capture of Thomas.
The express company officials refuse
to make any statement.

As* a Cause of Other Diseases.
A prominent physician of this section
was heard to make the following remark
"If I were asked to name the disease
vfltich most rarely destroys life I would
name catarrh. Bat were I asked to
name the disease which sets np in the
system oftenest diseases which do de
stroy life I would again name catarrh,
Catarrh while it-remains simply catarrh
very rarely destroyed life, although
makes life miserable, but catarrh leads
to a host of conditions, many of which
are fatal to life. It is sufficient to say
that the nervous system controls all the
functions of the human body. Every
minute blood vessel which jjermeates
the human body contracts and expands
under the influence of the nervous sys
tem. The portions of the nervous sys
tem which preside especially over the
circulation of the blood in tho mucous
membranes of the \>ody, is known as the
vaso-motor system of nerves When
these nerves become weakened and al
low more blood than normal to pass into
the capillary vessels, the condition of
the mucons membrane is known
tarrh; when this congestion continues
for some time it is known as chronic
catarrh. The congestion may occur in
the mucous linings of the nose, throat
or bronchial tubes, lungs, stomach, bow
els, kidneys or pelvic organs. Wherever
it occurs it produces the same condition
chronic catarrh.”
Dillingham’s Plant Juice, in its bone
ficial action upon the vaso-motor nerves,
strikes at once at the cause of a multi
tude of catarrhal diseases. The vaso
motor system of nerves 'controls all of
the. blood-vessels and ducts of the bodv
But particularly do they control all the
arteries and veins and cappillary vessels
of the mucous membrane lining every
organ of tho human body, from the head
to the pelvis. In catarrh the vessels are
abnormally dilated
Dillingham's Plant Juice increases the
tone of the blood vessels and causes
them to contract to their normally
healthy condition. It is this action of
Plant Juice solely that cures catarrh in
every part of the mucous membrane, no
matter where located. Chronic catarrh
is another name for an old cold, chronic
meaning old; catarrh, cold.
It is a common and dangerous coudi
tion as it will soon destroy the mucons
membrane, producing in th^ mouth
canker sores, in the throat enlarged and
uneven tonsils—sometimes causing deaf
ness—in the larynx hoarsenoss and
woakness of voice; in tho bronchia
cough and soreness of the chest; in the
lungs consumption; In the stomach dys
pepsia; in the duodenum and intestines,
diarrhoea and dvsentery, flatulency and
S ilos; in tho kidneys Bright’s disease;
i the bladder cystitis, (catarrh of the
bladder); in the reproductive organs
functional derangements. (
is no draise more common and
mbit zitjglected, mid often more difficult
to cure. It is common bccan.se all alike
are exposed to sudden changes in tom
peraturo; neglected because it is rarely
sevoro enough at first to interfere with
business, and difficult to cure because
usually it is allowed to become chronic
before treatment is l>egun.
The sure and ]>ermanent cure fot
tarrh in all its different forms is Dilling
ham’s Plant Juice, sold under a strict
guarantee to cure, or money back.

matism, is now for sale by Col. Dilling
