Dr. O L. Smith, Vico-President of
Emory College, died at his home in
Oxford, last Thursda; y evening. De
ceased was an able and zealous cliris-
l ian minister, and his death leaves a
void in Methodism that will, not soon
be filled.
—Col. Alexander died at one
(•’clock on Sunday, at his residence.
The immediate cause of his death
was congestion of the lungs and liver.
Dr. Owens stales that his death was
caused by pain—a very unusual cir
cumstance. His death, however, was
afcmparativcly easy, to all appearan-
<4s. lie once requested his sot.-in-
aw to lay him on the floor where he
could stretch himself out. Ho was
-ick tor only thirty minutes, but was
insured that lie was going to die.
lie was asked to allow himself to be
bathed and doctored. He refused
however, saying—“This is the death
-‘.niggle.”
He was perfectly tranquil, and met
•bath calmly and without fear. Mr.
\mos Fox, who was probably his
t.uo»t intimate friend, says he had
i'.'oquently heard him talk altottt
•Until, and he always expressed hitn-
v;lV ready to meet it unflinchingly
when it came. “ He died as he has
liv^l,’’ said Mr. Fox, “ an honest
