No other medicine for woman’s ills
has received such wide-spread and un-
qualifled endorsement. No other med
icine we know of has such a record
of cures of female ills as has Lydia E.
Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound.
For more than SO years it has been
curing female complaints such as
inflammation, ulceration, local weak
nesses, fibroid tumors, irregularities,
periodic pains, backache, indigestion
and nervous prostration, anu it is
unequalled for carrying women safely
through the period of change of life.
It costs but little to try Lydia E.
Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound, and,
as Mrs. Barclay says,it is “worth moun
tains of gold ” to suffering women.

The Need of Good Roads
In part we quote from a speech
made by William Sulzer, in the
house of repiesentatives of New
York on Juue 9, which is well
worth reading:
“One of the crying needs in
this country, especially in the
South and West, is good roads.
The establishment of good roads
would in a great measure solve
the question of the high price of
food and the increasing cost of
living. By reducing the cost of
transportation it would enable
the farmer to market his produce
at a lower price and at a larger
profit at the same time. It would
bring communities closer togeth
er and in touch with the center
of population, thereby facilialing
the commerce of idea as well as
of material product).
When the agricultural pro
duction aloneof the United States
for the past eleven years totals
$70,000,000, a sum to stagger
imagination, and it cost more to
take this product from the farm
to the railroad station than from
such station to the American and
European markets, and when
the saving in cost of moving
this product of agriculture over
good highways instead of bad
would have built a million miles
of good roads, the incalculable
waste of bad roads in this coun
try is shown to be of such enor
mous proportions as to demand
immediate reformation and the
wisest and best statesmanship;
but great as is the loss to trans
portion, mercantile, industrial,
and farming interests, incompar
ably greater is the material loss
to the woman and child and the
social life, a matter as important
as civilization itself. The truth
of Charles Summer fifty years
ago, that the two greatest forces
(or the civilization arethe school
master and good roads,’ is em
phasized by the intervening years
and points to the wisdom of a
I union of the educational, corns
! mercial, transportation, and in
dustrial interest of our country
in aggressive action for perman
ent good roads.
Obituary.
In memory of a loved one.
The death angel has come in
to the home of Mr and Mrs II.
L. Barnes and taken from them
their darling son, Odice,he was
16 years old last July, had al
ways been a healthy boy, was
never sick any until on Tuesday
August 23rd, He was struck
down with paralysis and his
suffering was great until last
Monday morning at 12:30 he
passed away.
Odice was a big hearted boy,
his presence was welcomed any
where he went. He was always
rerdy to make a self sacrifice to
the benefit of others, his friends
was numbered by his acquain
tences. Odice had never made
any public profession in Christ
but he left evidence before he
was taken sick, and while on
his diath bed, to remove all
doubt as to why He should not
meet his God in peace. I was
at his bedside during his last
hours, and it was hard to see
him suffering so, and to see him
trying to talk all the time but
his tongue was so paralyzed
until he could not be understood
and at last see him breathe his
las. But the thought comes,
“The Lord giveth and the Lord
taketh away, blessed be the
name ot the Lord,” let not ours
but His will be done,
I extend my heart felt sym
pathy to the bereaved ones, and
especially to the lather and
mother and to his old grand
father and grand mother Barnes
who hoped to raise him, and
who they so dearly loved, may
the Gracious Father give them
comfort in their bereavement.
Now may we all so live what
few days v/e are permitted to
stay in this world, so when we
come to die we can say it is .fin
ished good and well done, and
after we pass through that autul
sting ol death as Odice did, we
will be able to meet our Heaven
ly Father without stain or regret
where there will be no sorrow,
no pain, no sickness or death,
and where we can sing that new
song of praises for ever and
ever. S. K. B.
