The Republicans are not at all dis
couraged, and If you think so you
are badly fooled. They have an un
bounded faith in the Democrats and
firmly believe-that they will do some
fool thing to save them from an ov
erwhelming defeat next year. We
can only hope that the fool Demociata
will be kept In the background.—

The Indications are now that there
will be a larger acreage of cotton
planted In Pioice county thla year
than ever before. Wo hope that our
farmers will not lose sight of the
fact that a provision crop should not
be neglected. Twenty cent bacon and
twenty cent cotton Is only swapping
dollars und they have to do tho
hauling both .ways, which Is a loss
to tho farmer.—tllnckshear Times.

AN EARTHQUAKE FREAK.
On the morning of April 18th. 1906,
the cellar of Paul .Masson, a wine
meichant, of Hun Joeq, Cal., contained
a stock of oti<> hundred and twenty*
live thousand bottles, nil neatly ar
ranged. Then came the earthquake,
and when tho proprietor was able to
enter hi* cellar again, he fouud that
sixty-two thousand four thousand four
hundred and fifty-eight bottle.-, by ac
tunl count wore broken, and the re
mainder thrown about In the wildest
confusion. It Is curious, says n writ
er in the March Wide World, with
such a large number «»f hottles. that
tho “quaki" should have coiuo within (
a few dor.cn of demolishing un exact
Yialf of the stock. -
