Sugar’s on the moon,
Cotton's down to "five,"
Cracker's got to hustle
Or he can.'t keep alive.
Cloth’s a humping skyward,
Coffee’s full of beans,
The coin it Mils to rattle
When I reach down in my Jerfns.
Shoat’s a gnawing pindars,
But the dern things still stay lean:
It’s the biamdest harden-times,
That I ever have seen.
Terbaeker’B hit the ceiling,
An' I can’t afford to chaw;
Just got a card from Gaxvgy
To expect my mother-in-law.
I’m In it shore an’ sortln,

An' if rntious keep a risin’

But the campaign pot’s a bllln’
With the candidates thick as sand.
Askin’ If you vpte for them
They’ll shorely* have the land.
They promise, if erected,
To put tlielr shoulder to the wheel,

They talk sweet before election,
Never falter, never tire;
Just wait till they get In office,
Then, by gum, whose a liar.
