Six Were Killed in an Explosion
in New York This Morning.
New York, Dec. 19.—Six men were killed and more than a
dozen were injured in an explosion of dynamite in excavating
for a new building opposite the Waldorf Astoria hotel this morn-
ing f
The explosion was caused hy the workmen who started to
Irill a partially drilled hole in which dynamite sticks had been
eft overnight. Some of the men were blown to atoms.
Fragments of bodies were scattered over hundreds of feet,
md hours passed before the exact number of victims could be
iscertalned. The explosion was caused by a workman uninten-
ionally striking a heavy charge of dynamite placed in a drill
ioIc in the rock several days ago and which defied attempts
o explode it then. Intense excitement was caused in the Wald-
■rf Astoria hotel, which is almost directly across the street.
9he scene of the explosion was the fashionable hotel and resi
lence section of Fifth avenue and Thirty-fourth street, in the
xeavation for the new Altman building.

Letts than are the Russians. In a
fight near Tucum fourteen dragoons
